Battery storage / Coffs Coast NSW

Export is worth less every year.Storage isn't.

Feed-in tariffs keep falling while evening rates rise. Every kilowatt-hour you store and use yourself is worth several times what you'd be paid to export it. We install batteries for homes and businesses, with new solar or added to what you already have.

Why storage, why now

A core part of the business, not an add-on.

We design and install battery systems for homes and businesses, either with a new solar system or added to an existing one. From 16 kWh home batteries through to commercial storage that carries a site through its afternoon peak.

Most of our recent home installs are whole-home backup. The house keeps running when the grid drops, not just the fridge and a few lights.

Four jobs a battery does

More than a backup box.

  • 01

    Shifts solar into the evening

Store the middle-of-day surplus and run the house or site on it after dark instead of buying it back at peak rates.

    Self-use
  • 02

    Keeps the power on

Whole-home backup during an outage, not just a couple of circuits. On the Dorrigo plateau, where the grid drops in storms, it's the main reason people call.

    Backup
  • 03

    Shaves the commercial demand peak

Discharges into a site's highest half-hours so the meter never records the spike that sets the quarterly demand charge. That's the job of the 50 kWh at Mid Coast Trucks.

    Lower tariff
  • 04

    Retrofits to existing solar

Already have panels? A battery can be added to most systems, alongside the existing inverter or by swapping to a hybrid.

What we install

Three brands, on purpose.

Chosen on performance, reliability, manufacturer support and warranty. We're an approved installer for all three.
  • Home and commercial

Stackable batteries with a built-in gateway for whole-home backup. What went into Moonee Estate, Dorrigo and the Grafton Library inverter.

  • Home and commercial

Hybrid inverters and batteries from one of the largest inverter makers in the world, with strong Australian support.

  • Home

Large-capacity home batteries for households that want to run mostly on their own solar. The 48 kWh Bonville system is GoodWe.

Battery questions

What people ask about storage.

How long does a battery last?

The batteries we install carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty, and our workmanship warranty is 10 years too. Sigenergy, Sungrow and GoodWe are chosen partly because their support in Australia is real.

Can we add one to the solar we already have?

Usually, yes. We assess the existing inverter and switchboard at the site visit and tell you whether it's a straightforward add-on or needs a hybrid inverter. We're licensed electricians, so the switchboard side is ours.

Will it run the whole house in a blackout?

That's how most of our recent installs are set up: whole-home backup at Moonee Estate, Bonville and Dorrigo. It depends on battery size and what you want to keep running, and we design around the loads you nominate.

Does a battery pay for itself on its own?

It depends on your evening usage and, for a business, whether you have a demand charge. Current rebates have changed the maths for homes. For commercial sites, the load study tells us whether storage improves the return, and we say so either way.

What rebates apply to batteries?

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries program provides a discount on eligible home battery systems, and eligible NSW homeowners and landlords can access up to $15,000 at 0% interest. We claim what we can on your behalf and deduct it from the price.

Where does it get installed?

Usually in a garage, carport or plant room, on a wall or floor-standing, with the required clearances and ventilation. The Dorrigo system sits under an open carport; the Mid Coast Trucks batteries are in a mesh-walled plant room.
