Load and usage
Your bills first, and a power logger on the switchboard where it's worth it, so the design follows how the farm really uses power.
- Step 02
Pump hours
When the pumps and irrigation run, and for how long. Daytime pumping lines up with solar; pumping at night changes the design.
- Step 03
Shed and roof space
Which shed or roof has the space, pitch and orientation, and how far it is from the switchboard. We walk it.
- Step 04
Three phase
Whether the site is single or three phase, and what the supply and switchboard can take. We're licensed electricians, so the board is ours to check.
- Step 05
Tariff
Your tariff, any demand charge, and what the network will let you export. Together they decide how much of the solar the farm should use itself.

We lodge the network application, claim the Small-scale Technology Certificates on eligible systems and take them off the price.

We model whether storage improves the return. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, and we say which.

Farm solar questions
What farmers ask us.
Can solar run our pumps and irrigation?
Solar covers the power the pumps use while the sun is up, so it suits pumping that happens during the day. If most of your pumping runs at night, a battery or a change in pump timing may be part of the answer. We look at your pump hours before we suggest a size.
Do we need three phase power?
Not necessarily. The system is designed to match the supply you have. We check the supply and switchboard at the site visit and tell you before you sign if anything needs upgrading. As licensed electricians, we do that work ourselves.
Where does the system go?
Usually on a shed roof with the right space and orientation, with tilt frames where the pitch needs them. We walk the site and pick the roof that gives the best result with a sensible cable run back to the switchboard.
Are there rebates for farm solar?
Systems up to 100 kW can claim STCs, which we take off the price. A battery may also be eligible for the federal battery discount, which is taken off your quote. If your farm needs more than 100 kW, a different scheme applies and we'll explain it.
Can we finance it?
Yes. Finance is available through Brighte, subject to approval. We show the outright and financed cost side by side, so you can compare them before you decide.
How far do you travel?
We're based in Bonville, near Coffs Harbour, and travel across the NSW Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers for farm and commercial work, from Port Macquarie up to Lismore and inland to Armidale.
